Gary "The Leader Man" Selig was a charming gentleman salmon fisher from the farmlands of Pennsylvania Dutch country. He was well known for many years for his superb hand-tied custom fishing leaders. His spey and trout leaders were sought after all over the continent. Even though he was a very talented fly tier himself, he often traded his leaders for flies. He enjoyed collecting and admiring the works of other great tiers. Sadly, we lost Gary in January of 2018, and he is sorely missed.

Gary loved salmon fishing more than anything, spending many seasons in New Brunswick on his favorite salmon rivers. When he could no longer get there in person, he kept in touch with his salmon buddies by phone. He often called me to talk about salmon fishing and flies and materials. Kind, and generous of spirit, he often sent me leaders and collectible flies out of the blue. It was always a thrill to find a special package in the mailbox with my name and address in Gary's perfect, neat printing.

Other surprises included an original fly he created for me and special flies by famed salmon tiers like Warren Duncan, Keith Fulsher, Bryant Freeman, Bob Veverka, and more.
